Pizza Margherita was born in 1889 when the Neapolitan pizza chef Raffaele Esposito prepared three pizzas for Queen Margherita of Savoy during her visit to Naples.
Among these, the queen preferred the one with tomato, mozzarella and basil, whose colors recalled the Italian tricolor. In her honor, Esposito named it Pizza Margherita, consecrating it as a symbol of Neapolitan and Italian cuisine in the world.
